DECOMMISSIONING

INFORMATION ON DECOMMISSIONING RELATED WORK
IN WHICH TEKEDO AB HAS BEEN INVOLVED

Nuclear energy can qualify as a sustainable energy source only if the waste is managed appropriately, and if the nuclear facilities are decommissioned in a pertinent manner. The latter presupposes adequate technical as well as financial planning e g such that the financial resources are available at the time when they are needed. This is usually a far from trivial task since detailed technical planning is frequently required for financial planning purposes long before they may be warranted for purely technical reasons. Moreover, technical as well as financial planning are treacherous undertakings, and past experience tells us that cost levels as well as uncertainties are easily and frequently underestimated. It is therefore imperative that conciencious planning be carried out based on an appropriate knowledge base.

Tekedo AB has had the privilege  to support the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority (until July 1st 2008 the Swedish Nuclear Power Inspectorate) and others in developing, compiling and evaluating such knowledge. The results have been published in open reports, presented at international meetings and submitted to scientific journals.

This site contains a compilation of this material, and the purpose is to facilitate dissemination and utilisation of the results.
